Oral Health is an essential component of a person’s wellbeing, affecting the ability to eat, speak, socialize, secure employment and attain overall health. Many Arlington Free Clinic patients haven’t had oral health care in years – some have never been to a dentist.
Arlington Free Clinic launched its Oral Health Program in 2015, and in the program’s first six months of operation, learned just how great the need for dental care is. In six months, AFC served over 250 unduplicated patients with 450 appointments. After the initial exam, cleaning and x-rays:
- 50% required deep cleanings
- 91% required fillings (68% required 5 or more fillings)
- 36% required surgical extractions of 1to 8 teeth
To accomplish all of the work needed to get patients’ mouths healthy, each person requires on average, four appointments with AFC’s dentist. It costs approximately $207 to take a patient entirely through their course of treatment. We are very grateful for your donation to the AFC Oral Health Program which makes it all possible!
