Physical Activity Counselors Begin Training

_MG_0874AFC began training volunteers to be Physical Activity Counselors (PACs) for our new program Move to Health in February. Volunteer PACs will be trained to assess clients’ strength, stamina, motivation and readiness to change. They will also learn how to prescribe an appropriate exercise program from a phased exercise regime.

We piloted this program in the fall with the help of Body Dynamics, our physical therapy partner, and are now applying those lessons learned in Move to Health. Volunteer PACs will work one-on-one with a cohort of patients over a year to help them make these lifestyle changes – incorporating moderate physical cardiovascular activity and strength training into their daily routines. Move to Health will be part of a broader initiative to increase our clinic community’s awareness about lifestyle changes that can decrease the risk of developing chronic health conditions or improving the health status of those already tackling diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and osteoporosis.
