“Wellness Hour for Women” This group meets once a month in the large conference room at AFC and is facilitated by Ixi Blandon, a Spanish-speaking psychologist from Guatemala. It provides an opportunity for women to learn to identify stressors, and to practice relaxation, deep breathing and stress management techniques. Patients are taught to use journaling, music, yoga and other calming influences in their day-to-day lives to help manage stress and anxiety, and are encouraged to derive support from each other in a quiet, calm environment. “Holiday Stress Group ” For many of our patients struggling with being far from home and loved ones as well as with money and health concerns, the holidays can be a difficult time. This group meets once a year, in mid-December, and helps participants learn strategies to cope with common seasonal stressors in an inclusive and supportive environment. AFC also offers a post-holiday recovery group in January. "Surviving in Arlington " In early Fall 2007, a new group was initiated for men based on specific concerns our physicians and nurses were seeing from our male patients. "Surviving in Arlington" is a group that meets once a month to help men suffering from stress, nervousness, anxiety and depression.
